Music schools often focus on the technical side of playing, teaching, and collaborating. After graduating, I realized the many life skills necessary to build a career, business, and non-profit. It turns out, not all musicians are taught the skills needed to build a multifaceted career in music! From straightforward tasks, like creating a newsletter and building a website, to more complicated projects, like coordinating consortia, PR pitching, and launching a non-profit - there are so many avenues to consider when building a music career. And learning these skills takes TIME (which as we all know, we have a limited amount of each day).

Thanks to everyone’s favorite friend, a global pandemic, I had so much pent-up energy and time that shifted from driving to gigs to learning how to build a brand. Over the last few years, I gained so much experience from my time managing Rising Tide Music Press, launching Diversify the Stand, turning DtS from an LLC to a non-profit, booking hundreds of my own presentations across the world, and finally realizing my passion for management and organization. All in all, I finally took my own advice that I’ve been telling hundreds of musicians (become your brand and create an LLC - it’s important) and did just that!
